A Cult Following - 4-2-10We are lucky that movie stars come to Magicopolis, but unlike the millions who see their films, our show, Escape Reality, has only a cult following. Escape Reality is only seen by a teeny-tiny fraction of the world's movie fans, and only a very small minority of the world's live theater goers. Annually, daily, in fact every minute, more people see Mama Mia and Cats than will ever see Escape Reality. However, all of you millions still have an opportunity to see our show. If there are enough of you, it is not impossible to hope that Escape Reality at Magicopolis will make new fans and lose its cult standing. Cult is an odd word to me. Sure, I've seen audiences who've seen Escape Reality dozens of times, who insist it's one of the most fun live shows ever. Jim O'Conner, the show's biggest fan has seen Escape Reality a staggering forty-one times, and counting. Whenever two or more cult members meet they discuss the sleight-of-hand, illusions, and mind reading in the show. But would this same audience wash and dry my laundry for me? My idea of a cult audience is one that would follow my orders if I suddenly appeared and said, "Send Steve Spill a thousand dollars," would it work? << Return to Steve Spill's Blog Home > Steve Spill > Blog > A Cult Following |
