False Alarm - 7-16-09

I close our evening shows with a Houdini-type-escape, I'm hand-cuffed and chained to a metal table. It appears dangerous when a burning rope snaps before I can escape, releasing a ton of long sharp steel spikes that drop on me. Huge build up, emphasis on the impossibility of it all, dramatic lighting and exciting music.

Just then, the fire alarm went off. It's a false alarm, but nobody knows that. There's a wailing siren, flashing lights, our automated voice-evacuation system blasts an intimidating recording - demanding everyone leave the building immediately - I was still securely locked to the metal table when every member of the audience jumped up and ran out of the room, except for a few people. I finished the trick for the three of them, to a standing ovation. Actually, I'm not sure if it was a standing ovation or if they jumped up to run for their lives.
